The day after Chemo Day One
You know when you wake up and have to assess your body before you get out of bed? Especially if you have an injury? Laid in bed for 5 minutes at 4:45am this morning doing just that (don't worry - I slept well - thank you Ativan) - Am I nauseous? How's my port feel? Huh. I feel pretty normal.
Off to my 5:30am workout I go. I am pretty sure my husband thinks I'm crazy. But I went and it was awesome (with a ton of modifications for my right shoulder area where the port isn't fully settled in yet). I am definitely going to take advantage of those days I feel good. It was SOOOOOO good to workout. Don't know if I'm going to pay for it later in the day, but I'll take it now.
Midday I had my appointment to pick up my wig. Yes, I am cold capping to save my hair, but it's really saving my hair follicles. I will loose some hair for sure and I want to look put together some times. And I can't style my hair while cold capping - no hair drying, no flat iron, no brushing. Only combing, lightly. Washing only 2 times a week. Yeah, yeah, you crazy people who do this already. I have really oily hair and wash it every day. This will be a huge change for me.
The answer: a wig. For occasions. My only goal was to have it be as close to my current hair as possible, so that no one would say 'love your hair' or 'did you get a new cut'. Just wanted to blend in. Don't notice me. I don't have cancer. Who me?
That, for sure, will be impossible. Why? I've never had hair as good as this wig has! Makes we wonder if I'll ever give her up. Candace, as I've named her, is a dream. Easy to wash, style, and gorgeous. Thank you to the woman in Eastern Europe who cut her hair for this. Granted she was handsomely paid, but damn she grew some fine hair. The stylist cut it the way I wanted, thinned it out a bit (never have I ever had thick hair) and boom. There she was. I love her.
It really looks perfect! I love reading these updates. And I’m amazed you worked out with the port discomfort. Hopefully that will feel better soon.
